About Us

OUR MISSION: To manufacture and install aesthetically pleasing, durable, pre-fabricated aluminium flashings for the most difficult and troublesome building junctions encountered in residential and light commercial buildings in order to provide simple, cost effective, easy to fit long term, leak-free flashing solutions.

Flashman™ Flashings have been designed and engineered in New Zealand to very high standards to provide superior worry free flashings for use in a wide range of building applications.

Flashman™ Flashings include all the 4D principles of classic flashing design. Deflection, Drainage, Drying and importantly Durability. However we have added another “D” - Do-ability!

We consider it is vital to ensure that what is designed on paper can be quickly, effectively and accurately fitted on site. All Flashman™ Flashings excel in this area.

Mike Anticich

Mike Anticich is a qualified builder with a wide and varied experience in the building industry who pioneered the house inspection industry in Canterbury. He has personally inspected thousands of homes and written thousands of in depth technical reports on a huge range of building problems and disasters.

Mike has often appeared as a building expert in leaky home litigations, on national TV and radio, has been a guest speaker at building conferences and has written a technical column on building issues in the Christchurch Press and other national press as well as being a regular contributor to Building Industry media.

Having became disheartened with the inspection processes which included writing long and involved reports on the causes of leaky buildings, Mike determined to fulfill a more positive role addressing the causes of leaky buildings. In April 2006 Mike sold his previous company to concentrate fully on producing and marketing the Flashman™ range of innovative flashings which he vows will vastly reduce the leaky home epidemic.

Mike has a Trade Certificate in Carpentry, is a member of the Building Officials Institute of NZ, through Flashman is a member of Master Builders and Certified Builders Associations. Before selling his previous company AA House Checks, Mike was a long time member of the NZ Institute of Building Surveyors, a Certified Weathertight Homes Assessor contracted to the Department of Building and Housing where he specialised in investigating the cause and specifying the remedies for leaky buildings.

Mike passed the NZIBS Institute exams for Weathertightness and Remediation Design. He is also a graduate of Massey University majoring in Dispute Resolution.

Steve Hotton

Steve is a Registered Master Builder who has been directly involved in residential and light commercial building in Canterbury since leaving school 34 years ago and has never left the industry. Steve has specialized in project management and is also a self taught Architectural Designer who has used these skills to design and construct his own “spec houses” and provide a design and build service for his clients.

Steve has a passionate interest and concern for the NZ Building Industry and for the last 7 years has developed an in depth knowledge of Weathertightness issues, problems and solutions.

For the last 3 years Steve has been very involved with the remediation of 30 leaky buildings acting as project manager assuming total responsibility for all remediation design detailing, Building Consent documentation and oversight of a growing number of leaky home remediation projects in Canterbury. Flashman™ flashings have been used on all these projects.

This close association with Leaky Homes at the coal face has been invaluable in building weathertightness knowledge essential to the growth of Flashman. Too many weathertightness “solutions” are created in the isolation of research centres by “expert” committees. It is only when the “solutions” are fully tested in real life situations that their value becomes real and worth while. That is Steve’s approach. That is also Flashman’s approach to weathertightness design.

Steve has a reputation for thoughtful design and careful building practice. He also has an extremely good eye for detail. Steve’s practical skills combined with his drawing abilities and un-flagging determination to ensure that what is drawn on paper can be easily and simply achieved on site has been invaluable in developing the Flashman™ range of innovative flashings.
